April 15th, 2010 the Los Angeles Police Soccer Program hosted their second annual Cathedral High School Charity Soccer Tournament.
This year, the number of police and fire agencies that were able to commit was reduced to three. All fire agencies that were invited advised that they had limited personnel available due to financial restrictions and workload requirements. That included the LA City and County Fire Departments.
Participating Teams:
Los Angeles Police Department
The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department
The Los Angeles Airport Police

·OOur first match of the day pitted LAPD against the LAX Airport Police. In the beginning of the game, the contest was closely matched. Each team had opportunities that went awry. As the game settled down, LAPD struck the first goal. LAX made several attempts to even the match without success. The final score was LAPD - 3, LAX – 1.
Our next and final game of the day was against our brothers at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s are always a troublesome handful for us. They are fast, very skilled and determined to win.
LAPD worked hard, trying to maintain possession of the ball and advance forward when the chemistry was right. On one such surge Officer David Blake of NHWD Area broke free of several Sheriff defenders and struck a smashing shot into the back of the net.
As the game progressed, Officer Joel Dominguez of 77th Area, Juan Lopez of SW Area and Andrew COTA of NOE Area controlled the mid-field and the game. They quarterbacked the offense to two additional goals. The Sheriff’s continually came at us and on one such attack managed to score a goal. The final outcome was LAPD – 3, LASD – 1.
LAPD proudly took first place and the Gold Medal for the tournament.
Our special thanks to both teams that supported our charitable cause and to Cathedral High School for providing their athletic field to us on many occasions over that past 20 years. Thank you Cathedral High.
